Voice commands are generally used to instruct human beings, but now modern technology has changed a lot of things which surprise us. One of them is Voice Recognition Technology. Voice recognition technology enables a machine to recognise voice commands and do actions instructed by the voice commands.
There are so many software products, such as Dragon, available in the market which can be used for voice recognition. Personally I use Dragon to type my emails and other documents using my voice. But for some people, it may be costly to purchase voice recognition software. So, I'm telling you how to use voice recognition technology in your computer without using any software, because Microsoft has now included voice recognition feature in its operating system, Windows. You can use voice recognition feature in windows 7/8/8.1 if you have a microphone connected with your computer. Lets see how to enable voice recognition feature in windows operating system (I'm using Windows 8 for this tutorial).
1. Press Win+F keys to open search in windows 8.
2. Now type speech and click SETTINGS option.
3. Now from the search results, click "Speech Recognition".
4. Speech recognition window appears now. Before starting the speech recognition feature, you need to train your computer to better understand your voice, so click "Train Your Computer to Better Understand You".
5. Now Speech Recognition Voice Training window will open. Click Next.
6. Now start speaking the text you see on the screen clearly. It may take a few minutes to complete the voice training.
7. After completing the speech training, click NEXT and follow the on screen instructions to finish the speech recognition setup.
8. Now again open the Speech Recognition window and click Start Speech Recognition.
9. You will see a small speech bar on the top of the screen. Just click on the mic button to enable the computer to listen your voice.
10. Now you can speak your commands and your computer will listen them and respond. In my case, I'm speaking "Open VLC Media Player" to open the VLC Media Player. After listening my command, VLC Media player opens.
NOTE: You can get the list of all the speech commands by clicking the "Open The Speech Reference Card" option from the Speech Recognition window.
